EADS 2Q net profit up 46%

Airbus parent EADS says its net profit in the second quarter increased 46 per cent.

PARIS: Airbus parent EADS says its net profit in the second quarter increased 46 per cent as Boeing Co.'s European competitor raised its expectations for aircraft orders this year.

European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co. NV is reporting on Wednesday that net profit for the three months to June rose to euro118 million ($185.32 million) compared with euro81 million for the same period a year earlier.

Revenue was up 5 per cent to euro9.89 billion ($15.53 billion). EADS says it expects Airbus to capture more than 850 aircraft orders in 2008, 150 more than it predicted in May.
