HONG KONG: Deutsche Bank, Germany's biggest bank, hired Atul Malik from Citibank as Asia-Pacific head of private and business clients, replacing Peter Schedl, the company said on Wednesday.

Malik, 44, will assume the position at the end of the year and will also become a member of the bank's executive committee for private and business clients, it said. Schedl will return to Frankfurt to take a global strategic role in the division.

Deutsche Bank is expanding its consumer banking in India and China. It announced the completion of a 10 per cent acquisition of Hanoi Building Commercial Joint Stock Bank, known as Habubank, last week.

Malik will be based in Singapore and report to Rainer Neske, head of private and business clients, and to Colin Grassie, chief executive officer of Asia Pacific, the company said.
