Daimler profit plunges 65 per cent

The German luxury automaker Daimler said on Tuesday that its 2008 net profit had plunged by 65 percent to 1.4 billion euros (1.8 billion dollars) as auto markets collapsed late in the year.

FRANKFURT: The German luxury automaker Daimler said on Tuesday that its 2008 net profit had plunged by 65 percent to 1.4 billion euros (1.8 billion dollars) as auto markets collapsed late in the year.

Daimler added in a statement that it expected significant charges against core earnings in 2009.
