Daimler CEO open to takeover-led growth
Daimler could use takeovers to strengthen its position in areas including trucks, environment technology, and car services and insurance, chief executive Dieter Zetsche was quoted as saying.
The German carmaker, also the world’s largest truckmaker, had practically no financial limits for deals. Daimler, which sold a majority stake in US arm Chrysler this year, has expressed interest in the past in small takeovers that could round out its technological expertise and in joint ventures to strengthen its trucks business in emerging markets.
Zetsche said it was “highly unlikely” that Daimler would acquire another carmaker after shedding loss-making Chrysler, according to the agency.
