Chrysler: No plans to sell brands or plants

Chrysler LLC Vice Chairman Tom LaSorda says the automaker is not in talks to sell brands or plants that make current models.

NEW YORK: Chrysler LLC Vice Chairman Tom LaSorda says the automaker is not in talks to sell brands or plants that make current models.

LaSorda made the remarks in a call with reporters Wednesday morning. The comments were in response to reports that the company was in talks to sell a factory to Canadian parts supplier Magna International Inc. and the Jeep brand to the partnership Nissan-Renault.

A Renault spokeswoman denies that the company is in talks to buy assets from Chrysler. A Nissan representative in Tokyo and a Magna spokeswoman in Michigan declined to comment.

LaSorda says Chrysler is not in talks to sell its plant in Belvidere, Illinois, and any sale above $100 million would require government approval.
