China's economy has recorded an impressive growth of 11.5 per cent year on year, the government said here today.

BEIJING: China's economy has recorded an impressive growth of 11.5 per cent year on year, the government said here today.

The growth was 0.5 percentage points higher from the same period last year, latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics said.

The GDP for January to June totalled 10.68 trillion yuan in the first half of the year.

China's economy grew at the fastest pace in 12 years in the second quarter.

GDP expanded 11.9 per cent from a year earlier, up from 11.1 per cent in the first quarter.

China's fixed assets investment in the first half of this year totalled 5.4168 trillion yuan ($716.5 billion), up 25.9 per cent year on year. The growth is 3.9 percentage points lower than that of the same period of 2006.

Investment in urban areas reached 4.6078 trillion yuan, up 26.7 per cent, while in rural areas, it was 809 billion yuan, up 21.5 per cent.

China's consumer price index (CPI) rose sharply to 4.4 per cent in June compared with a year ago, NBS Spokesman, Li Xiaochao said, adding that the rise was mainly due to soaring food prices.

CPI in the first half of this year increased 3.2 per cent year on year.
