China, S’pore trade deal to impact Asian economies

The free trade agreement and a memorandum of understanding on co-operation signed between China and Singapore will have a significant impact on a wide range of sectors across the region.

The free trade agreement and a memorandum of understanding on co-operation signed between China and Singapore will have a significant impact on a wide range of sectors across the region.

The epoch making pact includes provisions for transfer of workers and easing customs clearance. According to the pact, Singapore will exempt all tariffs on imports from China starting from January 1, while China will impose zero tariff on 97.1% of the imports from Singapore from January, 2012.

They have pledged to launch deeper co-operation on service trades such as health care, education and accounting.
