China seizes adulterated US food products

China's quality watchdog has claimed seizing adulterated protein powder imported from a US company.

BEIJING: China's quality watchdog has claimed seizing adulterated protein powder imported from a US company.
The Shanxi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau Sunday discovered selenium, exceeding Chinese food safety standards, in the protein powder imported from the US-based Jarrow Formulas Inc.

Selenium, which is essential to life, could be poisonous when taken in excess. All the powder has been returned.

Details of the quantities of the powder seized or the names of the importers are unavailable.

The administration asked importers to specify food safety requirements when importing US food products, in an effort to lower trade risks.
