China hopes EU won't slap anti-dumping measures on its steel

China has said it is hopeful that the European Commission would refrain from slapping anti-dumping measures on its steel products and offered to find a solution through dialogue and negotiation.

Beijing: China has said it is hopeful that the European Commission would refrain from slapping anti-dumping measures on its steel products and offered to find a solution through dialogue and negotiation.

China's Ministry of Commerce noted with regret the anti-dumping applications against its steel products filed with the European Commission by the Brussells-based European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (Eurofer).

Two complaints have been filed by Eurofer asking for anti-dumping measures on stainless steel cold-rolled flat products and hot-dipped metallic coated sheet and strip.

A commerce ministry spokesman said though China's steel exports increased this year, a stable price was maintained.

"China's exports met the demand of European market. If the EU imposed anti-dumping duties on China's steel products, it would harm Europe itself," the spokesman said.

He said EU's steel industry had maintained a good growth and was "not harmed by China's exports".

China would like to solve the issue through dialogue and negotiation and encourage cooperation and exchanges between the two sides, the spokesman, quoted by the official Xinhua news agency, said.

According to Eurofer, Chinese steel imports into the EU will reach 10 million tons this year, doubling that of last year.

Imports from South Korea and Taiwan were also included in the first complaint from Eurofer which said dumping of the products was causing "material injury" to the European steel industry.
