The Edmonton Oilers continued their remarkable playoff run with a 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Oilers made NHL history by becoming the first team to record five straight come-from-behind wins in a single playoff year.

The Golden Knights started strong. Captain Mark Stone scored twice in the first period to give Vegas a 2-0 lead. It looked like the Oilers were in trouble early. But as they’ve done throughout the playoffs, they fought back.

Corey Perry got the Oilers on the board late in the first period, cutting the lead to 2-1. After a scoreless second period, Edmonton came out firing in the third. Just 57 seconds in, Leon Draisaitl tied the game 2-2 with a powerful wrist shot. The momentum shifted completely after that.

Zach Hyman gave the Oilers the lead with a clutch goal with just over three minutes left in regulation. Less than two minutes later, Connor Brown scored another to seal the game. The Oilers scored four unanswered goals in total.

Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard each had two assists in the win. Goalie Calvin Pickard made 15 saves in a calm and composed performance. On the other end, Vegas goaltender Adin Hill made 24 saves but couldn’t stop the Oilers’ third-period surge.

This latest comeback win adds to a streak that began in the first round against the Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers had trailed in several games in that series but found ways to rally and eliminate the Kings in six games.

The Oilers’ never-give-up attitude is showing they are serious Stanley Cup contenders.

Game 2 will be played on Thursday in Las Vegas. The Oilers will look to carry this momentum forward to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
