Windsor-Essex: Know what’s open and what's closed on Thanksgiving Day

Many businesses are closed on Thanksgiving Day in Windsor-Essex as it is a family holiday. All federal, state and local offices are closed on Monday since it is a federal holiday. Additionally, all financial institutions will also remain closed.

Windsor Public Library and Essex County Library will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. On Monday, all beer store outlets and LCBO locations will also be closed. There will be no shopping on Monday at Devonshire Mall or Tecumseh Mall in Windsor. LaSalle's Windsor Crossing outlet mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All four public school boards serving Windsor-Essex, St. Clair College, and the University of Windsor will be closed on Monday. The classes will resume on Tuesday.

While all ServiceOntario branches will be closed, there will still be some transactions that can be completed on their website.


The collection of residential garbage, yard waste, and recyclables usually takes place on Monday in Windsor but will be a day later than usual. It will continue to be collected as usual for commercial garbage. In Windsor, the public drop-off centre at Central and EC Row will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Windsor will not enforce parking on Monday. On Thanksgiving, metered street parking is free, and all traffic fine payment offices will be closed. Garages and lots, however, will continue to be charged as usual.

Sunday holiday schedules will apply to Transit Windsor buses on Monday. The sales office on North Service Road will be closed on Monday, but the downtown transit terminal will be open.

Only pre-scheduled rentals are permitted at Tecumseh Arena on Monday. Nevertheless, recycling and yard waste collection will continue as usual.
