Health Canada has issued a windshield washer fluid recall for McDade Auto -40 Windshield Washer Solvent due to concerns over inadequate child-resistant packaging, raising the risk of accidental exposure. The windshield washer fluid recall affects more than 132,000 units sold across Canada between October and December 2025.

“Immediately stop using the recalled product and dispose of it according to municipal hazardous waste guidelines,” Health Canada warns in their recall notice published on Jan. 5.

Why the windshield washer fluid recall issued

According to Health Canada, the recalled product does not comply with the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. The issue lies in the absence of proper child-resistant packaging. Authorities warned that the lack of protective packaging could lead to unintended ingestion or exposure, which may result in serious illness, injury, or death, particularly among children. “This windshield washer fluid recall was issued to prevent potential harm before any incidents occur,” Health Canada said.

The windshield washer fluid recall involves McDade Auto -40 Windshield Washer Solvent, specifically products bearing the UPC code 8 50051 57531 2.
