"The LaSalle Police Service offers our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Ms. Grewal," police said in a post on social media.
"To ease public concern, we are sharing that investigators are viewing this as an isolated incident."
According to multiple media reports, officers responded shortly before 9:30 PM to a reported stabbing on Todd Lane, between Canada and Bishop streets. The injured woman was transported by Essex-Windsor EMS to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, reported CBC News.
Grewal was a 45-year-old Canadian social media influencer and YouTuber of Punjabi origin who lived in Windsor, Ontario. She was known online for her outspoken opinions and commentary on political and social issues, including criticism of separatist movements.
She frequently courted controversy for her sharp criticism of political figures as well as other public personalities. Investigators have not disclosed a motive and say the case remains under active investigation.
In a Facebook post, investigators urged anyone with information related to the LaSalle homicide to contact Det. Sgt. Jamie Nestor at 519-969-5210, ext. 2531. Police also asked residents in the surrounding area to review and share any available surveillance or security camera footage that could assist with the investigation.
