Whitecourt's Rotary Park gets shut as search operations continue to find missing kid. Check out the details

A child went missing at the scenic Whitecourt’s Rotary Park area on Sunday. The child was swimming with the adults in the pond, which is otherwise for "only adults". The park was closed after search operations began.

‘Whitecourt RCMP along with Fire and Emergency Services are currently at the scene,’ Mounties said in a recent statement.

The Canadian Mounties have said that the area has been cordoned off and the search is still on for the missing child, who is supposedly below the age of 10. It has been informed that the fire and emergency services have been pressed into it along with the Whitecourt rescue team.


Corporal Lacey Blair doesn’t have anything further to add at the moment. The park is located around 180 kilometers from Edmonton. The public and tourists have been asked to avoid coming to the area to allow the search to be completed constructively.



The place, Whitecourt, is a travelers' paradise, and this subarctic locality has been a tourist destination for ages. People have gone missing in the past and are sometimes found or assumed drowned. But incidents like these rarely occur.

Local people call the town the ‘Snowmobile Capital of Alberta’ with the Whitecourt meteor crater in Whitecourt Mountain.

Where is Rotary park located?
Rotary Park is located close to downtown in the adjacent river valley. It is an outdoor park having a range of facilities for adventures. There is a pond that is laden with fish, which is cleared for ice skating during the winter. There are walk trails for trekking, sports fields for various outdoor team games, playgrounds for children, etc. Local people also can enjoy a picnic on the scenic grounds and pet lovers can bring their pets as there are pet walks created within the park.

Two artificial creeks within the park are for tubing and jumping into. In 2012, around 19 water features were introduced to attract tourists and local people alike. With so many people visiting the area accidents can happen, however, it is advised that children are always accompanied by an adult and not left alone.
