Canada News: A “radicalized” youth, who was arrested in late 2025, has been placed on Peace Bond by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for the “facilitation of a terrorist activity under s. 83.19 of the Criminal Code,” the federal law agency said in a news release on Wednesday (February 4, 2026).

The RCMP Federal Policing Eastern Region’s National Security Enforcement Section (ER NSES) in New Brunswick said that the youth is now under the authority of a terrorism peace bond, which is the first in New Brunswick history.

“A terrorism peace bond can be used when investigators fear that a terrorist offence may be carried out, enabling the use of robust monitoring and de-escalation tools,” the news release from police stated. “This case is part of a broader trend observed by the ER NSES in New Brunswick involving youth radicalization driven by exposure to extremist online spaces and peer-to-peer networks,” it added.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents any further release of information regarding this individual. The RCMP will not be making further comments at this time.

Terrorism peace bonds have been used by law enforcement in 17 cases since the provision was introduced in 2001. The last active terrorism peace bond expired in May 2019.
