Winnipeg Jets' Haydn Fleury lies on the ice after being injured against the Vegas Golden Knights during the first period of their NHL hockey game in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Haydn Fleury was taken off the ice on a stretcher during the first period of Tuesday night’s January 6 game against the Vegas Golden Knights, a 4-3 overtime loss at Canada Life Centre. The incident occurred at 13:16 of the first period when Fleury slid hard into the end boards after being hit by Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar while attempting to clear the puck from his defensive zone. Fleury’s head and upper body made principal contact with the boards on the play. No penalty was assessed to Kolesar, noted NHL.

Winnipeg coach Scott Arniel told reporters that Fleury would remain overnight in the hospital for further evaluation. “Obviously, he’s got a lot of tests to go through," Arniel said as quoted by NHL. "He does have a broken nose. There’s a few different things that happened off it. A little bit of everything. He obviously slammed his back, his neck, hit his head, and then obviously his nose.”

Fleury has no points in 17 games this season for Winnipeg, which currently holds a 15-21-5 record. The Jets have not yet provided a timeline for Fleury’s return as medical evaluations continue.
