With 68.7% of registered voters casting ballots, Canada saw the largest voter turnout since 2015, shocking the country with worries about economic stability and national sovereignty.

Under the new leadership of Mark Carney, the Liberal Party won 169 seats of 343 and secured a consecutive fourth term. The last time a winning party secured at least 40 per cent of the popular vote was in 2000, when Liberal leader and former prime minister Jean Chrétien won his third consecutive majority government.

It’s an even rarer moment as both Liberal and Conservative parties exceeded the 40 per cent mark in this election, as this phenomenon was last seen in the 1930 election.

Mark Carney, a former central banker with no prior political experience, led the campaign, which was supported by the voters seeking stability and leadership to fight against the global instability, particularly in response to the US President Donald Trump’s threats and tariffs.

Public opinion also saw a major shift as polls indicated a strong lead for the Conservative Party earlier this year. However, the leader of the Conservative Party, Poilievre's alignment with Trump's style and approach led to a decline in support, due to which he also lost his long-held Carleton seat to a Liberal newbie, Bruce Fanjoy.

It was the most challenging election for the New Democratic Party as Jagmeet Singh, its leader, lost his seat in Burnaby Central, which led to him stepping down from the post, and the party ended up securing only seven seats nationwide, ultimately losing their official party status.

The Bloc Québécois also saw a decrease, winning only 22 seats, while the Green Party won only one seat.

Carney's victory speech after the announcement of the election results highlighted a commitment to assert Canada's interests on the global stage.
