An Air Canada flight with 156 passengers and six crew members onboard veered off the runway after landing at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport on Thursday afternoon (July 9, 2026), Air Canada said. No injuries were reported following the incident involving a Boeing 737 MAX, which occurred at approximately 4 p.m. and led to operational delays at the airport.

“Flight AC774 arriving from LAX on July 9, 2026, landed normally at Montreal International Airport, then sustained a runway excursion and travelled through the grass when exiting the main runway,” Air Canada said in a statement to CTV News.

Passengers disembarked the plane, and the probe launched

At 7:37 p.m., the airline confirmed on the social media platform X that all passengers and crew had safely disembarked and were inside the terminal. Investigations are now underway, and Air Canada says the aircraft will be towed to a hangar for a full inspection.

The airline says it will investigate the incident and work with relevant authorities to determine the cause. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada confirmed to CTV News that it has opened its own investigation into the matter. “We have deployed investigators to the scene to gather information and assess the accident,” a spokesperson said in an email to CTV News.

Operational delays at Montreal airport

A spokesperson for Montréal Airport said in an email to CTV News that following the incident, the emergency coordination centre at the airport was activated, which led to a runway closure. “To facilitate the safe evacuation of passengers, the North Runway has been temporarily closed, which may result in operational delays,” the statement said. “Passengers are encouraged to check the status of their flights before travelling to YUL.”

By 9:55 p.m., the runway had reopened after being closed to allow the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to carry out its investigation, a spokesperson confirmed in an email to CTV News.
