Uber Technologies (UBER) missed analysts’ revenue expectations in the first quarter but exceeded Wall Street’s forecast for gross bookings in the upcoming quarter. Despite a 6 per cent drop in its stock during choppy premarket trading, Uber’s resilience in ride-hailing and delivery services continues to show growth potential. Uber's Q1 results revealed a 14 per cent increase in revenue to $11.53 billion, slightly below the expected $11.62 billion.
Strong demand for ride-hailing and delivery services
Uber's ride-hailing business showed impressive growth, bolstered by an uptick in business travel and stricter office return policies. The company saw increased demand for intra-city commuting, airport trips, and popular destination travel. Uber’s delivery business also performed well, with a solid 18 per cent revenue increase, aligning with analyst predictions. A notable move by Uber to cater to price-sensitive customers was the launch of its Price Lock Pass, a $2.99 monthly subscription offering consistent fares on designated routes, competing directly with Lyft's similar feature.

Uber’s focus on autonomous driving and tech innovation
Uber also forecasted second-quarter gross bookings between $45.75 billion and $47.25 billion, slightly above Wall Street’s $45.83 billion expectation. The company anticipates a slight drag on its gross bookings growth due to currency fluctuations, with a stronger US dollar impacting international earnings.
Despite its Q1 revenue miss, Uber’s upbeat outlook on adjusted EBITDA for Q2—projected between $2.02 billion and $2.12 billion—continues to keep investor sentiment positive.
