The two men, a 73-year-old man and a 77-year-old, had not returned from ice fishing near Little Brook Lane in Belleisle, Nova Scotia. One man was found dead on Wednesday afternoon (March 11, 2026). The search for the second is ongoing. “Overnight, RCMP remotely piloted aircraft system operators and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre conducted air searches while fire services conducted searches in the water,” said the RCMP in a news release, as quoted by CTV News.
Police have stated that Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue, Digby Ground Search and Rescue, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), and Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources are all involved in the search. They are asking residents to avoid the area and stay off the ice.
In a separate incident, a 53-year-old man died after a car and school bus collided in North Sydney, N.S., Wednesday morning. According to CTV News, Cape Breton Regional Police responded to the collision near the intersection of Archibald Avenue and Pleasant Street around 8:45 AM.
Police said the students were removed from the bus, with some treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and later he succumbed to those wounds, according to an update on Wednesday afternoon.
