An emergency alert sent to residents described the suspect as a woman with brown hair wearing a dress. In a brief update, as quoted by CBC News, police said the 'original suspect' is believed to have been found dead and investigators are now working to determine whether a second suspect may be involved.
Staff Sergeant Kris Clark, a spokesperson for the BC RCMP, said Tuesday afternoon that officers are working to verify reports of a possible second shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Speaking to The Globe and Mail, Clark confirmed there are multiple victims, but said police are not yet able to provide details on the number of people injured or the severity of their injuries. The emergency alert issued to mobile phones in the area described the suspect as a woman with brown hair wearing a dress.
Tumbler Ridge is a small, remote community located northeast of Prince George, near the Alberta border, more than a 13-hour drive from Vancouver. According to the 2021 Census, as reported by Daily Hive, the town has a population of just over 2,300 residents. A STARS Air Ambulance spokesperson confirmed to CBC News that an air ambulance was dispatched to Tumbler Ridge from Grande Prairie, Alta., about 140 kilometres to the east.
