Trump calls Mark Carney ‘future governor of Canada’ in latest Truth Social post, rekindling jabs at Canadian leadership
US President Donald Trump has again called Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney the 'future Governor of Canada'. This follows previous instances where Trump used unconventional titles for Carney. The remarks come amid discussions on cross-border po...

Trump’s post referenced his work alongside US governors to combat the destructive invasion of Asian Carp in the Great Lakes.
According to CTV News website, Trump has previously referred to the Canadian prime minister as “governor,” including in a January Truth Social post about a potential Canada–China deal.
“If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken,” Trump wrote.
Responding to the remark, Carney said he would not “comment on every ‘tweet,’ or ‘truth,’ or comment from whoever,” adding that he “can handle it.”
According to CTV News website, In October 2024, Donald Trump jokingly referred to Mark Carney as the “president” of Canada, prompting a lighthearted exchange between the two.
The remark was made at the “Summit for Peace,” an international meeting backing a permanent Gaza ceasefire, where Trump said it was “so great” to have Canada involved and noted its “president” had called him about the project’s “importance.”
Carney later corrected Trump’s title in jest, saying he had “upgraded” him to president, prompting Trump to reply with a smile: “At least I didn’t say, governor.”
US President Donald Trump has also raised the idea of Canada becoming the “51st state,” framing it as a way to secure resources such as water, land, and energy.
