Almost 4,000 beagles are looking for homes as animal rights groups begin to haul them away from the Envigo breeding and research facility in Fairfax, Virginia.
Beagles were being bred to enter laboratories for drug trials. A statement from the Humane Society said that 25 beagles were killed over eight weeks from exposure to cold.
The President and chief executive of the U.S. Humane Society said that it took almost two months to get all these animals out and work with shelter and rescue partners across the country to bring them back to their forever-loving homes.
Animal shelters from Illinois to Pittsburgh began accepting dogs for body check-ups, vaccinations, and other treatments before being adopted.

The company did not respond to a request for clarification on this. Government officials on inspecting found that beagles were being deceased mercilessly instead of being treated for easily curable diseases.

Humane Society added that ‘some dogs were injured after being attacked by other dogs as they were kept in crowded environments.’

According to a Virginia Republican Senator, the beagle rescue effort began much earlier. Efforts have been made since 2019 to shut down the facility, but they were unsuccessful.
