Finn Wolfhard(Mike Wheeler), Vancouver-born star of Stranger Things, surprised fans on New Year’s Eve by appearing at a series finale watch party at Park Theatre, celebrating the end of the decade-long Netflix hit while helping mark the survival of the historic theatre he helped save from closure.

“I mean this was like 10 years of my entire life. You’ll see some shots from the episode and it’s going to be sad, looking at these cute little child actors and how ugly they are now,” he said.

About the series

Stranger Things is a globally popular Netflix sci-fi horror series that debuted in 2016, created by the Duffer Brothers. Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the show follows a group of kids who encounter supernatural forces and secret government experiments after the mysterious disappearance of their friend, Will Byers.

Blending suspense, nostalgia, and heartfelt character moments, the series explores themes of friendship, family, and courage, while introducing iconic characters like Eleven, Mike Wheeler, and Dustin Henderson.

Known for its mix of horror, adventure, and 80s pop culture references, Stranger Things has become a cultural phenomenon, earning critical acclaim and a devoted global fanbase.

After a decade-long run, Stranger Things has finally concluded with its final season.

“Truly this has been my life and being able to end this journey with you guys and at home is the best thing I could ever ask for, so thank you so much.”

Fans flocked to the theatre for the two-hour finale of the long-running Netflix series, many arriving in costumes of their favorite characters. The event also featured Stranger Things-themed desserts from Lee’s Donuts and a special edition Backcountry Brewing beer showcasing the Park Theatre in the Upside Down.

The screening was Park Theatre’s first major event since being saved from closure last fall by owner Corinne Lea and a team of investors. Finn Wolfhard, one of the theatre’s backers, recalled seeing news of its closure on Instagram and cold-calling Lea to offer his help.
