The real reason why Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will be released early from prison; here’s when he gets out as he appeals federal sentence
Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs's federal prison release date has been moved up to April 25, 2028, approximately six weeks earlier than previously scheduled. This adjustment is due to his participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP)...

The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Combs’s release date was adjusted earlier than his previously scheduled June 4, 2028 release. This modification reflects his enrollment and active participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a rehabilitative initiative that allows qualifying federal inmates to shorten their sentences by up to a year upon successful completion.
A representative for Combs said that he has been “fully engaged” in the RDAP since joining in November 2025, focusing on his rehabilitation and personal development as part of his time in custody.
Combs’s prison release timeline has shifted multiple times. Initially, at sentencing, his release was projected for May 8, 2028 based on good-time credits; that date was later recalibrated to June 4, 2028 before the most recent adjustment to April 25, 2028.
Combs, a towering figure in music and entertainment, was arrested by federal authorities in September 2024 amid an investigation into alleged criminal activities including racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.
After a high-profile trial in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York that began in May 2025, a jury found Combs not guilty of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges but convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
On October 3, 2025, the presiding judge sentenced him to 50 months (four years and two months) in federal prison, imposed a $500,000 fine and ordered five years of supervised release following completion of his prison term.
He has been incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix in New Jersey, where he has served the bulk of his sentence to date.
Combs’s legal team filed an appeal in December 2025, seeking either a reversal of his conviction or a reduction of his sentence. They argue that prosecutorial missteps and constitutional violations played a role in the outcome of his trial.
In filings with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, his lawyers also sought an expedited hearing so that Combs could benefit from any sentence reduction resulting from a successful appeal. At the time, his legal team noted he had already served significant time and could earn additional credits for participation in prison programs.
Prosecutors opposed the appeal in February 2026, arguing against Combs’s motion for immediate release or sentence reduction.
