Montreal Canadiens rookie Owen Beck opened his NHL scoring account on Saturday night, December 20 netting the first goal of his career in a confident display of poise and timing. Beck intercepted the puck in the neutral zone, skated in with control, and snapped a clean shot past Penguin’s goaltender Stuart Skinner, giving Montreal a 2–0 lead in the first period. The goal marked a milestone moment for the young forward, who had come close to breaking through earlier this season.

In an earlier meeting against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Beck seemed to have scored his first NHL goal when his shot beat goaltender Tristan Jarry short side, but the effort was overturned after Penguins coach Dan Muse successfully challenged the play for offside.

Own Beck's salary

Beck, who signed a three-year, $2.56 million entry-level contract with the Canadiens in October 2022, carries a cap hit of $853,333, according to PuckPedia. The deal runs through the 2026–27 season.

The goal adds another encouraging sign for Montreal as the club continues to integrate young talent into its lineup.
