A man lost his life in a head-on collision involving two vehicles that occurred near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, in South Ohio on Friday (February 27, 2026), police said. Officials launched an investigation into the incident that took place around 1:45 PM on Hardscratch Road near Highway 340.

The initial investigation shows the driver of a GMC Sierra was travelling north when they collided with a Ford Ranger travelling south, according to RCMP, as reported by CTV News. The collision caused the driver of the Ford to crash into the ditch.

An 82-year-old man from Arcadia who was driving the Ford Ranger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 43-year-old man from Yarmouth, was arrested for impaired driving causing death after officers “observed signs of impairment,” as reported by CTV News.

He was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police collected a blood sample as part of the investigation. Meanwhile in other news, police services across the Greater Toronto Area have increased patrols around places of worship. The move comes after the United States and Israel launched massive strikes on Iran on Saturday.

Briefing about the situation, York Regional Police stated that they are monitoring the situation closely and additional patrols have been deployed near faith-based institutions, community centres, schools and other public gatherings.

“We understand that global events can cause local safety concern and have a profound effect on our communities,” YRP said in a statement, as quoted by CTV News. “Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in their neighbourhoods. These patrols are proactive and are intended to deter any potential criminal or hate-motivated activity prompted by events overseas,” the statement added.
