Multiple drivers have been charged for allegedly speeding excessively on Highway 11 and Highway 400 overnight, provincial police said. Officers stopped a pair of drivers in their 20s who were speeding in a posted 90 zone on Highway 11 northbound in Oro-Medonte Township, CTV News reported, citing Ontario Provincial Police (Orillia OPP).

Four drivers charged

Orillia OPP said that four drivers face stunt driving charges. According to a news release, a 29-year-old man was charged after being caught driving 153 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on Highway 11 North. In a separate incident, a 21-year-old man with a G2 license was also charged after he was recorded travelling at 144 km/h in the same 90 km/h zone on Highway 11 North.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old woman was charged for stunt driving after going 189 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 400, the release said. A 17-year-old girl was charged for stunt driving after she was observed driving 163 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 400, it added.

“Also, an 18-year-old man was charged after a traffic stop in Orillia for failing to display two licence plates. Officers learned he was operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock system, a condition placed on his licence,” the release said. The names of the accused have not been released.

“The OPP reminds all motorists that excessive speed and aggressive driving behaviour poses [sic] serious risks to everyone on the road,” said Const. Derek Tilley from Orillia OPP in a news release, as quoted by CTV News. “Officers will continue proactive enforcement efforts to promote safe driving across the region.”
