More traces of human remains found in Lake Mead in Nevada

More traces of human remains have been found in Lake Mead, Nevada as its waters were receding. The recent discovery is the fourth set of human remains found since May this year, according to authorities.

Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States, is currently shrinking and losing its water level amid the worst drought in several decades. With its reduced water level, many long-hidden secrets of the lake no longer remain hidden by its waters.

In the latest incident, the National Park Service (NPS) revealed that someone found human skeletal residues at Swim Beach, situated in Lake Mead National Recreation Area on August 6.


The Rangers allotted a perimeter at the beach to retrieve the human remains with the help of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police’s divers. A medical expert was also present to examine the cause of the death, which has yet to be revealed.

While the investigation is ongoing, it is still unclear how long the human remains have been in the lake’s water.

Amid the relentless water crisis in the West, the water levels of Lake Mead have plunged to unprecedented lows. In this drought situation, at least three other sets of human remains were discovered at the lake in May.

Among them, on May 1, one set of human remains was found in a corroding barrel with a mark of a gunshot wound on the body. While Las Vegas Metropolitan Police’s homicide department has taken over the investigation of the case, it has been revealed the residues belong to a person who died within the timespan between the mid-1970s and early 1980s. It has also been speculated that the death of the victim occurred due to a mob hit.

On May 7, while two sisters were paddle boarding near Lake Mead’s Callville Bay, they found some skeletal remains. It is yet unknown how the second person’s death occurred or how long the skeletal remains had been in the lake’s waters.
