Montreal records its 25th homicide of the year; three men stabbed, one dead in overnight incidents

Montreal’s nightlife turned deadly overnight as three men were stabbed in two separate bar incidents, leaving one dead and two hospitalized, marking the city’s 25th homicide of 2025 and raising urgent questions about public safety. This incident has raised concerns about public safety amid a summer of heightened tensions.

Around 2 am on Saturday(August 9), police were called to a licensed establishment on Côte-des-Neiges Road near Barclay Avenue following reports of an altercation that escalated into violence. Emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting two men had been stabbed.

The first victim, a 36-year-old man, was conscious when police arrived and suffered a lower-body injury caused by a sharp object. He was rushed to hospital and remains in stable, non-life-threatening condition.


Tragically, the second victim, a 48-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries. Medical authorities confirmed his death Saturday afternoon.

According to Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils, preliminary investigations indicate a conflict between the victims and a suspect who fled the scene before police arrived. Authorities are actively searching for surveillance footage and gathering forensic evidence with the aid of a canine unit.

Second Incident: Anjou Neighborhood

Less than two hours later, at approximately 3:50 am, emergency responders were called to des Ormeaux Street near Georges Avenue in the Anjou borough, where a 24-year-old man was found with an upper-body stab wound.

He was conscious upon arrival and was transported to hospital in stable condition. Police say the injury stemmed from an altercation at a nearby licensed establishment on Chaumont Avenue.

Investigators have established a perimeter to preserve the crime scene and are canvassing the area for surveillance cameras to piece together the events. No arrests have been made in either case.

The police continue to urge witnesses to come forward to aid investigations, underscoring the role of community cooperation in public safety.

This latest violence adds to a troubling trend in Montreal, where homicides have increased compared to previous years and Authorities are already struggling with the challenge of curbing violent incidents.
