A man died after a two-vehicle collision in Shediac, New Brunswick. The incident occurred on Friday (February 20, 2026) and came to light when members of the Shediac RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Route 133 at approximately 21:56 p.m., according to a New Brunswick RCMP news release. The 45-year-old man who lost his life in the tragic incident hailed from Pointe-du-Chêne, New Brunswick.

According to the news release, a few minutes prior to the reported collision, a member of the Shediac RCMP observed a truck on Ohio Drive in Shediac travelling at a high rate of speed at approximately 21:45 p.m. The member attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to stop, accelerated, and turned onto Route 133, eastbound. The member terminated the pursuit and did not follow the truck.

Later, when the Shediac RCMP received the report of the incident, it was revealed that one of the two vehicles involved in the collision was the same truck that had previously been observed speeding. “The collision is believed to have occurred when the driver of the truck crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic and collided with another car,” the news release stated.

Besides one death, a 20-year-old man, who was the driver of the truck, and four passengers sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. The 45-year-old man who lost his life was the driver and sole occupant of the car. He succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The investigation into the tragic incident was ongoing at the time of filing of the report.

Members of the Shediac Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, the Coroner's Office, and an RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist attended the scene. “The truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and flight from police. He was released and will appear in court at a future date,” the RCMP news release said.

Due to the initial attempt by a member of the Shediac RCMP to stop the truck prior to the collision, the New Brunswick RCMP has contacted the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) to review all the initial information and determine if it meets their mandate to investigate.
