Kung Fu Panda 4 to release in 2024. Here are the details

If you have been waiting for some Kung Fu Panda-style action, the wait is going to get over as the new movie in the series will be showcased in 2024. It will be the first installment in the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ series since 2016, when DreamWorks animation, the makers of ‘Shrek’, ‘How to train your dragon’, completed a planned trilogy. ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ is scheduled for release on March 8, 2024, according to an announcement made on Friday by Universal Pictures.

Po Ping (primarily voiced by Jack Black), a hyper panda bear living in a fantastical depiction of ancient China, is the main character of the movie. Po Ping is selected to be the ‘Dragon Warrior,’ (Kung Fu master), in the franchise's first movie, which was released in 2008.

Po trains with the wise Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) throughout the movie and its two sequels, gets over his fears to become a strong hero, defeats a few perilous enemies, and eventually reunites with his long-lost biological parents.


The first ‘Kung Fu Panda’ by DreamWorks Animation became one of the highest-grossing original animated pictures and brought in over $630 million worldwide. The entire series spawned over $1.8 billion in box office revenue.



The three ‘Kung Fu Panda’ films, in addition to their commercial success, also garnered favorable reviews. The third movie was dubbed a ‘delightful trilogy capper’ by movie critic Justin Chang in a review he wrote for ‘Variety’ in 2016. He claimed that it brought the trilogy's ‘long-running themes of tenacity and self-knowledge to satisfying completion.’

There hasn't been any information about the fourth movie in the franchise so far. The original trilogy's ensemble also includes Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, David Cross, and James Hong in addition to Jack Black.

The screenplays for all three movies in the original trilogy were written by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, with Melissa Cobb serving as the main producer. The first movie was directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne, while the two sequels were co-directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni.
