With the NDP facing potential seat losses and internal divisions over free speech and religious freedom, Jagmeet Singh is making a final push in the Prairies, a region crucial for the party's survival.

As polls indicate a precarious position in Winnipeg and Edmonton, the NDP leader is attempting to rally support while navigating a complex debate within his own ranks.

Winnipeg polling firm Probe Research's findings reveal the NDP's struggle, trailing the Liberals and Conservatives since February.

While a recent uptick in popularity offers a glimmer of hope, the party's ability to retain its Prairie foothold remains uncertain. Singh's campaign, facing potential losses elsewhere, views maintaining these seats as critical for post-election rebuilding.

Singh's campaign message focuses on the NDP's influence in pushing for progressive policies, citing dental care and pharmacare agreements.

However, this narrative is complicated by internal disagreements over "bubble zones" and their application to protests near religious sites.

The controversy centers on NDP candidate Jorge Requena Ramos's challenge to Liberal incumbent Ben Carr's stance on protests outside Jewish community centers and mosques.

Ramos, supported by Green and Communist candidates, argues for protecting peaceful expression, even at politically charged sites. This stance clashes with Carr's concern for the safety of children attending schools and daycares within these centers.

Carr's criticism of the NDP's alignment with the Communist Party highlights the ideological fault lines within the party and its broader coalition.

The NDP's attempt to balance free speech with religious freedom has exposed tensions, raising questions about its ability to maintain a unified front.

Singh's campaign also faces challenges in countering the narrative of a Liberal-Conservative race.

In Edmonton, Singh's alliance with former premier Rachel Notley attempts to frame the federal Conservatives as mirroring the divisive politics of Alberta's UCP government.

However, this strategy risks alienating moderate voters and failing to address the NDP's internal disagreements.

As Singh concludes his Prairie tour and heads back to Toronto, the NDP's electoral prospects remain uncertain.
