Australian fighter Jack Della Maddalena made a bold statement after becoming the new UFC welterweight champion at UFC 315 in Montreal. He defeated Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision. This win marks his 18th straight professional victory and his biggest yet.

Della Maddalena fought a tough five-round battle against Muhammad. He showed intense striking, patience, and excellent footwork. Judges scored the fight in his favor, and fans praised his calm but dominant performance.

After the win, Della Maddalena didn’t wait long to call out another top name — Islam Makhachev. The current UFC lightweight champion, Makhachev, has long dominated his division. But now, the Aussie wants him in a superfight at welterweight.

Speaking to reporters, Della Maddalena said, “It’s a beautiful challenge. Islam is pound-for-pound number one. I want to get it back for Volk.” He referred to fellow Australian Alexander Volkanovski, who lost twice to Makhachev in previous bouts.

Della Maddalena believes he can avenge those defeats and prove himself to be one of the best in the world. “I think I have the skills to test him. It would be a great fight for the fans,” he added.

Interestingly, Makhachev appears open to the challenge. Shortly after UFC 315, he posted on social media: “Time to become a double champion. #inshaAllah. Let’s go.” This suggests he is ready to move up to welterweight and face the new champion.

If the fight happens, it would be one of the most exciting matchups in UFC history — a clash between two skilled, technical fighters from different weight classes. Both are on long winning streaks and have loyal fan bases.
