Helicopter crash on Montreal’s South Shore leaves 4 dead; Transport Minister expresses condolences as probe begins

At least four people were killed after a helicopter crashed on the South Shore of Montreal on Saturday afternoon (September 26, 2026). The crash occurred in a field near the Rang des Écossais off Highway 10 in the municipality of Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville, according to CBC News. It is located approximately 55 kilometres southeast of Montreal.

Following the crash, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) responded to the scene at around 2:30 p.m. Speaking to CTV News, the provincial police said that a helicopter crashed and caught fire near Rang des Écossais off Highway 10 in the Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville municipality. According to Sûreté du Québec Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, four people onboard the helicopter were pronounced dead at the scene. The blaze was brought under control within the next hour.

Citing the preliminary information, the SQ said the helicopter was in distress moments after it took off and then crashed eventually, as reported by CTV News. At the time of filing of this report, police did not confirm the ownership of the helicopter. There was also no information available regarding the location from where it took off and where it was headed.


Identities of the four victims were also not known at the time when this report was filed, as the investigation remained ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the incident. A team of investigators was deployed on the scene, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) said in a statement to CTV News.

Transport minister expresses condolences

Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon took to social media platform X to express his condolences. He said that first responders are currently at the scene of the crash and the safety of civil aviation operations is his department’s highest priority. “We are aware of the tragic helicopter crash that occurred earlier this afternoon in the Montérégie region of Quebec. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. First responders are currently at the scene of the crash,” MacKinnon said in an X post.



“The safety of civil aviation operations is Transport Canada’s highest priority. The department will continue to closely monitor the situation on the ground and stands ready to provide support and work with all relevant parties as the situation develops. Transport Canada will appoint a Minister’s Observer,” he added.
