Halifax Missing Baby Update: Remains of newborn found, two people face charges; cause and manner of infant’s death in spotlight

Fresh updates emerge from Halifax, Nova Scotia, in the case of the missing baby. The remains of the newborn were discovered after a two‑day search, and authorities have confirmed that two individuals are now facing charges. This comes as a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

According to CTV News, Halifax Regional Police said the baby’s remains were located Sunday around 3:20 p.m. in a wooded area off Old Coach Road.

Two people face charges

Authorities confirmed on Saturday that they had taken four individuals into custody for questioning. While two were later released, the remaining two now face charges.

Police identified them as Sukhpreet Singh, 23, a relative of the woman, and his wife Ramandeep Kaur, 26. Both are scheduled to appear in court Monday to face charges of concealing the body of a child, obstruction, and indignity to a dead body. Officials said that the investigation remains ongoing and offered condolences to the infant’s loved ones.

Inside the Missing Baby Incident: What Happened

The case of the missing baby emerged after police were alerted on Friday (May 22, 2026) around 9:40 p.m. when a woman, who appeared to have just given birth, arrived at the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a statement published on the Halifax Regional Municipality’s official website. The 23-year-old woman remains in hospital in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon, CTV News reported. Police stated that they believe the woman experienced a medical emergency and do not consider her condition to be the result of violence.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Halifax police reported that officers, along with Halifax Search and Rescue, were conducting a search in the area of 214 Willett Street. Authorities are asking members of the public to avoid the location to allow investigators to carry out their work.

Police forensic teams were seen combing through several dumpsters outside an apartment complex in Halifax on Saturday evening as the search for a missing newborn intensified. Halifax Search and Rescue confirmed that 55 people were assisting in the operation, with additional support from a canine unit brought in from Colchester Ground Search and Rescue, the news outlet reported.

On Sunday, police reported that newly obtained information redirected their search efforts to Prospect Road and the surrounding area, according to CTV News.
