A sudden dip in temperatures has prompted Environment Canada to issue a frost advisory for Southern Ontario, warning residents of potential overnight frost. According to the advisory, temperatures could fall to the freezing mark, especially in rural and low-lying areas vulnerable to frost.
“Temperatures are expected to drop to near the freezing mark overnight into early Friday morning,” the advisory reads. “Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas.”

Though Thursday will see a daytime high of 14°C, a cool air mass will sweep across the region by nightfall, driving the overnight low to around 1°C. This temporary chill contrasts with the seasonal norm of a high of 18°C and a low of 6°C for early May.
Homeowners and gardeners are advised to bring sensitive vegetation indoors or cover outdoor plants to protect them from damage. The frost warning for Ontario is expected to be short-lived.
Warming trend ahead: 26°C forecast by Monday across Ontario
Relief is on the way, with meteorologists predicting a sharp rebound in temperatures beginning Friday. Sunshine returns with a high of 16°C, kicking off what’s expected to be an extended warm and sunny spell.
“Overall, it’s a beautiful stretch of weather today right through to Mother’s Day on Sunday, even into early next week,” said Jilly Taylor, 570’s meteorologist. “We should have plenty of sunshine. We may not get any wet weather again until Tuesday night next week.”
Highs of 22°C on Saturday, 20°C on Sunday (Mother’s Day), and even 26°C on Monday are on the horizon. Some light rain could arrive by Tuesday, but the sunshine is expected to continue into Victoria Day weekend.
