A 13-year-old boy has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of an elderly woman outside her home at 2125 Lynn Heights Drive, Pickering, on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. EDT, and the woman was taken to the hospital but later pronounced dead.
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after an elderly woman was fatally stabbed outside her home at 2125 Lynn Heights Drive, Pickering, on Thursday (May 29) afternoon, according to Durham Regional Police.


The homicide happened around 3 p.m. EDT outside the woman’s home near Fairport Road and Lynn Heights Drive. She was found with serious injuries and rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.



Police say the attack appeared unprovoked and was captured on video. The suspect was seen wearing a long black skinny jacket, a surgical mask, and carrying a black bag.


An emergency alert was sent across the Durham Region, Toronto, and other parts of Ontario, urging residents to shelter in place as police searched for the suspect.

Later in the evening, Durham homicide detectives, along with the tactical support unit, located and arrested the 13-year-old suspect without incident. He is now in custody. After the arrest, the shelter in place alert was lifted in the area near 2125 Lynn Heights Drive, Pickering, ON.


“He’s been arrested by our tactical support unit without incident,” said Durham Police Chief Peter Moreira at a press briefing outside the West Division station. “You can now go freely about your day-to-day lives,” he added, confirming that the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.


The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) thanked the OPP, Toronto Police Service, and the City of Pickering for their support during the manhunt.

This homicide in Pickering has left the community in shock. It is unclear whether the victim and the young suspect knew each other. Authorities have not released the victim’s name or further details about the boy due to his age.
