CTV National News Anchor ‘blindsided’ after lay off from Bell Media, giving huge 35 years of her career. Bell Media cited this as a “business decision” as they want to take the role in "a different direction."

Lisa LaFlamme, the longtime CTV National News anchor finally broke her silence after Bell Media ended her contract after 35 years. In a video posted on Twitter, the Canadian Journalist said that she was blindsided and shocked by the “business decision” of Bell Media.

She also added that the decision to non-renew her contract was communicated to her on June 29 by Bell Media which is the parent company of CTV News. She was informed that the decision is in line with the media company’s wish of going “in a different direction.”

Lisa LaFlamme was also asked by Bell Media to keep this information a secret from the public and her colleagues till the specifics of her exit could be resolved. In 1997, LaFlamme was hired as a weekend news anchor with “CTV News Net '' and from then her career spanned decades with CTV News.


LaFlamme was made the successor of Lloyd Robertson as the full-time anchor of CTV National News in the year 2010. And in the next year, she was named the Senior Editor and Chief Anchor of "CTV National News with Lisa LaFlamme".

Now Bell Media in a news release announced Omar Sachedina as the new Senior Editor and Chief News Anchor of CTV National News which will come into effect from September 5.

Sachedina is currently working as National Correspondent for CTV news. Back in 2009, he joined CTV National News as a correspondent in Toronto.

The senior vice president of Content Development and News at Bell Media, Karine Moses thinks the ideal person to lead CTV National News is Sachedina. Also adding that Sachedina has played a key role in unfolding breaking news across Canada and around the world to Canadians for over a decade.

The 58-year-old LaFlamme believes that she has a lot more to offer in the Industry.
