Matthew Yeomans and Stacey Tourout, creators of the Toyota World Runners channel with more than 203,000 subscribers, were killed on August 7 when their vehicle plunged about 200 meters down a steep slope on a remote service road near Trout Lake, west of the Rocky Mountains in southeastern BC.
Kaslo Search and Rescue manager Mark Jennings-Bates said crews responded to a 911 call late Thursday(August 7), but rough terrain and limited daylight complicated the recovery. One person was found without vital signs at the scene, while the other was critically injured and later died after being airlifted to hospital.
“It was very clear there had been a vehicle rollover,” Jennings-Bates said. “There was an ejection, and that person had no vital signs.”
In a social media post, Tourout’s mother, Colleen, described the “unimaginable heartache” of losing both her daughter and Yeomans.
Shared love for travel
Just days before the accident, the couple uploaded what would be their final video, showing them testing their trucks and camping in the wild.
Search and rescue officials say the tragedy is a sobering reminder of the risks in remote travel, urging adventurers to carry emergency communication devices and prepare for unpredictable conditions in the backcountry.
