Canadian Armed Forces move military vehicles for G7 Summit 2025 in Kananaskis
Canada gears up for the 2025 G7 Summit in Kananaskis. Military vehicles are being moved between Edmonton and Calgary. The summit will address global issues like peace, economy, and digital transition. Security measures are in place, including high...

Together with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police-led Integrated Safety and Security Group (ISSG), the CAF is working to minimize traffic disruptions by conducting the moves at night, with convoys traveling on specific highways.
Fraser Logan, ISSG community and media relations lead, stated, “There’s a large logistical process when you’re dealing with any type of road move and a large convoy of vehicles, but the military is very good at moving a large amount of people and equipment very efficiently."
The equipment moves are planned to occur at night to lessen traffic disruptions. The convoys will use Anthony Henday Drive, Queen Elizabeth II Highway, Highway 201, Highway 1, and Highway 40.
Logan also explained safety measures for the convoys. “From a safety standpoint, the vehicles will be pushed off to the side. They should all be travelling on a dual-lane highway, so it will be easy for people to get around them in the left lane. They’ll be travelling in a convoy, so that means they’ll be going slightly slower, and they’ll be in a tight group so that people can get around them if they need to,” said Logan.
Logan noted the commonality of military equipment transport on Alberta highways. He also emphasized the training of armed forces in this area. With the convoy operations underway, Logan advised caution for drivers.
“They will be moving at a slower rate speed that people may be normally used to with the flow of traffic,” said Logan.
“We’re just asking that people just give them the space they require if pay attention to any directions given from the military,” said Logan.
Logan did not provide details on the type or number of military vehicles involved. CAF members will collaborate with the RCMP in Kananaskis before and during the summit.
