How will Air Miles members be affected?
Air Miles program members can continue using their collector cards, with accumulated miles automatically converting to “Blue Points” at an equivalent value once the new program launches. BMO said no action will be required from customers for the transition.
BMO Air Miles credit and debit card holders can also continue using their cards without interruption and will receive additional details about the new program in the coming months.
What will Blue Rewards offer?
According to the bank, Blue Rewards will feature a simplified booking experience for flights, hotels, and car rentals, powered by Expedia Group. The program will also build on recent changes, including the ability to earn points on grocery and food delivery purchases by scanning in-store receipts through the Blue Rewards app. Customers will also be able to earn bonus points at most grocery retailers and wholesale clubs across Canada.
“Blue Rewards completely reimagines the loyalty experience with the client at the centre,” said Mathew Mehrotra, group head of Canadian personal and business banking at BMO, in a news release on January 26.
“With a digitally enabled platform, we’re making one of Canada’s most celebrated loyalty programs even better by delivering simpler, flexible, more personalized rewards for collectors and helping them make real financial progress every day.”
Key features of the Blue Rewards program
Simplified rewards system
Air Miles will automatically convert into Blue Points at an equivalent value. Members will earn a single type of reward point following the consolidation of Cash and Dream Miles. Travel redemptions for flights, hotels, and car rentals will be available through a streamlined platform powered by Expedia Group.
Members will continue earning rewards at more than 400 brands, including Pharmasave and Global Pet Foods. New partners include Porter Airlines, Accor hotel brands such as Fairmont, Novotel, and SLS, Instacart, and several MTY Group restaurant chains. Rewards at Shell Canada will remain available through May 25, 2026, with Alberta locations continuing until March 2, 2026.
Members can earn points at grocery retailers and wholesale clubs across Canada by scanning receipts through the Blue Rewards app. BMO checking account holders will also be able to opt in to earn points on gas, grocery, wholesale, and EV charging purchases made with debit cards.
New credit card benefits
BMO will introduce new Blue Rewards credit cards featuring accelerated points on everyday purchases such as gas, groceries, and wholesale shopping. Points can also be earned across linked BMO credit card products.
A pre-launch waitlist is open for customers interested in applying for the new Blue Rewards credit cards, with details and full card features to be announced later.
