Infant found abandoned near Steeles Avenue East and Rutherford South

Police confirmed the child was discovered abandoned but in good health near the intersection of Steeles Avenue East and Rutherford South. The Amber Alert was cancelled around 6:40 p.m. when the child was located.

Suspect identified as Shahzaib Memon, still at large

The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Shahzaib Memon, who remains at large. He was last seen driving a grey Nissan Rogue with license plate CZLM113. Memon is described as approximately 5-foot-9, weighing 119 pounds, with black hair. Authorities have not released information about his direction of travel.

Initial call and not a parental abduction

Peel Regional Police were called to the area of Bartley Bull Parkway and Hurontario Street, north of Steeles Avenue, around 3:15 p.m. The case has been described as “family-oriented” but not a parental abduction.

Local officials commend police response

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown praised Peel Regional Police for their swift and effective response. “We got the best of the best with Peel police. They were focused to make sure they found that infant right away,” Brown said. He added that the child’s safe recovery was “the best news we can have” and expressed confidence that the suspect will be found soon.
