GTA 6 is coming in 2025: Price, platforms, first female lead Lucia, and everything you need to know
Nearly 13 years after GTA V introduced us to the criminal trio of Michael, Franklin, and Trevor in September 2013, Rockstar’s next entry is shaping up to be not just a sequel, but a reinvention.
A New Story in Vice City
Set in the state of Leonida ( a fictional name for Florida ), GTA 6 brings players back to Vice City, the urban playground first seen in the 2002 classic “GTA Vice City”. But this isn’t like the old game. The new Vice City is larger, denser, and more vibrant, spanning swamplands, rural towns, crime-ridden suburbs, and a modern downtown core. The map is rumored to be twice the size of GTA V’s Los Santos, with changing weather systems, ecosystem-based wildlife behavior, and real time economy changes.
“Think Florida on steroids,” said an anonymous gamer. “From nightclubs to Everglades, from Instagram influencers to political scandals, it’s a living, breathing satire of 21st-century America.”
Lucia: GTA’s First Female Protagonist Breaks New Ground
GTA 6, for the first time in history, will feature a female protagonist, Lucia, who appears in the debut trailer wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. She’s seen plotting heists with a male partner, whose identity is still not revealed. Together, the duo forms what fans have dubbed a modern-day “Bonnie and Clyde.”
Rockstar hasn’t revealed much about Lucia’s backstory, but her presence signals a tonal shift. GTA V was known for its cynical satire and chaos, but GTA 6 appears more intimate and character-driven.
The Leak Episode
Work on GTA 6 began as early as 2014, just a few months after the launch of GTA V. Despite Rockstar’s tight-lipped culture, the game suffered a major blow in 2022, when a hacker released over 90 videos of in-development footage
The hacker, an 18-year-old linked to the Lapsus$ group, was later arrested in the UK and ruled mentally unfit for trial.
What we know about the gameplay
Though most of the gameplay details are not revealed, some key features have been confirmed or strongly rumored:
- Dual Protagonist: Players can switch between Lucia and her partner, similar to the character-swap mechanic in GTA V.
- Smart NPCs and AI: AI-powered non-playable characters are expected to react more realistically to player actions, creating emergent gameplay moments.
- Evolving World Map: The map may expand post-launch via DLC or live updates, suggesting a living world that changes over time.
- Enhanced Stealth and Crime Systems: Police AI is expected to be more intelligent, with new mechanics for evasion, disguise, and hiding.
- Social Media Integration: In-game social platforms will mimic real-world apps, reflecting players’ notoriety and influence in the game’s digital society.
Price and Platform of the Game
Rockstar has confirmed that the game will first launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version is expected to follow in 2026, mirroring Rockstar’s staggered rollout for GTA V.
Analysts and fans expect the price tag to match the game’s scale: around USD 100 (approx. CAD 120), especially for deluxe or collector’s editions.
“This won’t be a $60 game,” said gaming analyst Tobias Chen. “Rockstar has invested over a billion dollars in development. They’re betting big.”
It is expected to shake the gaming world as its predecessor sold over 185 million copies, making it the second-best-selling game of all time behind Minecraft.
GTA 6 is set to redefine what an open-world game can be with bold storytelling and next generation ambition.
