The Blues had taken a 3–0 lead midway through the second period, silencing the crowd at Canada Life Centre. But the Jets came storming back, scoring three unanswered goals in the third to force overtime.
“I’m so proud of this group,” said Lowry. “We could’ve folded after two periods, but everyone dug in. It’s a great way to finish the series.”
Gabriel Vilardi started the comeback at 5:17 of the third period. Kyle Connor cut the deficit to one with a power-play goal at 9:22. Then, with just 1:12 left in regulation and the goalie pulled, Mark Scheifele tied the game to send it into overtime.
Both Jets and Blues traded chances in the first extra period, but goaltenders Connor Hellebuyck and Jordan Binnington stood tall.
Finally, at 12:48 of double overtime, Lowry ended it. The captain skated in and fired a wrist shot past Binnington, capping the comeback and igniting celebrations across Winnipeg.
“I’ve never been part of a Game 7 like that,” said Jets coach Rick Bowness. He praised the team again and added that the character their players showed tonight — that’s what defines playoff hockey.
After winning this Jets vs. Blues thriller, the Jets will face the Colorado Avalanche in the second round. Game 1 is set for Thursday in Denver.
