70-year-old drunk woman faces impaired driving charges after refusing to stop for police

A 70-year-old woman landed in trouble after she refused to stop for police while driving at a slow speed in Barrie. She is facing impaired driving charges as she almost collided with other vehicles and did not pull over for police on Tuesday evening (June 24, 2025).

Impaired driving charges refer to the type of charges when a person is caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, making you unsafe on the road. According to police, they received an alert at around 7 PM related to a possible drunk driver on Tuesday evening (June 24, 2025) who had just left a shopping mall on Bayfield Street and narrowly collided with another vehicle.

The woman’s car was located shortly when it was travelling on Livingstone Street East at St. Vincent Street, according to media reports. However, to everyone's surprise, she didn't pull over. The officer then activated the lights and sirens on the cruiser to try to persuade the driver, but police say the vehicle continued on at a slow speed down the road.


The woman finally stopped the car after the officer positioned the cruiser in front of her at Marjoy Avenue, ultimately forcing her to stop.

Woman showed signs of impairment, say police

The accused woman showed obvious signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene, according to police. She was taken to the police station for further testing. Following the testing, it was reportedly revealed that she was determined to be nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit, CTV News reported.

The woman was later released from custody. She was given a future court date to answer to the charge. Besides that, her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
