Following the death of an 18-month-old toddler identified as Jameson Shapiro, an independent federal Canadian law enforcement agency charged three Canadian police officers with manslaughter and criminal negligence.

The manslaughter charges were levied following the death of an innocent boy identified as Jameson Shapiro by Canada's SUI during a shooting incident.

What happened during the incident?

On November 26, 2020, Nathan Vanderheyden, Kenneth Pengelly and Grayson Cappus interacted with the boy's father, who kidnapped the child in his pickup truck. During the feud, the police officers shot the 33-year-old in the pickup truck. After the shooting, it was discovered that the child had died on the scene. The driver was in critical condition and was airlifted to the hospital.


Due to the grave condition in which the 33-year-old driver was brought to the hospital, the boy's father passed away on December 2, two weeks after the shooting.

According to Canada's Special Investigation Unit, the police acted in response to the case of the kidnapping of the child after the pick-up truck was located. They found the vehicle in the Kawartha Lakes city.

Director Matino of the Special Investigations Unit has laid charges against Nathan Vanderheyden, Kenneth Pengelly and Grayson Cappus, the three officers involved in the incident.
