10 dead, including shooter, several injured in mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC school

According to Global News, RCMP confirmed that officers discovered six people dead inside the school when they entered the building. Two additional victims were found deceased at another nearby location, while a ninth victim died while being transported to hospital. The individual believed to be responsible for the shooting was also found dead. Police say the injuries appear to be self-inflicted. Earlier, the suspect had been described as a female wearing a dress with brown hair.
Two other people were airlifted to hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries. About 25 more individuals were taken to a local medical centre for assessment and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP Supt. Ken Floyd, the North District commander, said the shooter has been identified, but police are not releasing further details at this time. Authorities have not confirmed how many of the victims were students or adults, nor have they provided information about the weapon or weapons involved.
A Grade 9 student told Global News he hid in a classroom closet with other students while the situation unfolded, unsure of what was happening. The active shooter alert was lifted at 5:46 PM PT.
According to Global News, Tumbler Ridge Elementary School announced, just after 5 PM, that students could be safely released to their parents or guardians. The school district later confirmed that both the elementary and secondary schools will remain closed for the rest of the week.
