OTTAWA: Finance ministers at the Group of Seven meeting by Sunday in Tokyo will discuss the issue of whether the US dollar needs to be stronger, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said on Wednesday.

"I'm sure the topic will be discussed and we'll see what the sense of the meeting is," he told the media. Flaherty also said Canada would be "consistent in what we've said" on the need for China to adopt a more flexible exchange rate.

Flaherty has regularly said the Chinese yuan needs to appreciate in order to help resolve current account imbalances.
