As news of the outage spread, social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), saw numerous reactions. Users shared memes to cope with the situation. Bank of America customers and non-customers used humor to handle the experience.
One user wrote, "The Bank of America outage is real. Just logged into all my accounts with them. Showing zero balances. LOL. FLAT BROKE."
Another joked, "Someone robbed Bank of America, and Bank of America is entering balances to reflect pre-robbery balances. Prove me wrong."
The outage primarily affected those using the Bank of America mobile app and website. Many users could not view their balances or recent transactions. The app showed outdated information, and the bank's website was inaccessible for many. According to Downdetector, a service disruption platform, reports peaked around 1 PM ET with about 20,266 complaints. Users noted that essential functions like money transfers were not working, and some had issues with their bank card transactions.
This incident is not the first for Bank of America. In January 2023, the bank had a similar glitch, showing $0 balances for customers using Zelle. Yesterday’s outage has already impacted the bank's reputation, gaining widespread attention and humorous reactions online.
